Faith in Action: Methodist Church & Diabetes Fiji Health Screening Initiative

The Methodist Church of Fiji holds its Annual Conference once a year, extending over the course of a week. For the 2024 event, Diabetes Fiji was invited to participate as part of the program. In the lead-up to the main conference, two days were dedicated to the Pastors’ Meeting, which brought together church leaders from across Fiji and Rotuma. On the 21st and 22nd of August, our team conducted free health screenings and awareness sessions at the Centenary Church in Suva.

The program offered a wide range of vital services, including screenings for Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, and blood glucose levels. Participants also had the opportunity to consult with a multidisciplinary team of health professionals, including a dietitian, physiotherapists, a medical officer, a social worker, and a foot clinic nurse, who provided education on foot care. The outreach was well received, with many pastors—especially those who had travelled from as far as Rotuma, expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to be screened and for the emphasis placed on prioritizing their health and wellbeing. Members of the wider congregation also made full use of the services, reflecting the importance of such initiatives in promoting community health.

Diabetes Fiji extends its sincere appreciation to Rev. Reuben and the Centenary Church for their kind invitation and support towards this important health initiative.
